In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, two brothers died due to an explosion caused by an unexploded shell in Athmuqam area. Qdeer Mughal and Amjad Mughal, aged between 18-22 years and resident of Palri village in Athmuqam died after an explosion occurred when they were fiddling with an unexploded shell fired by the Indian Army. They had gone to collect wood and found an old shell fired by the Indian Army before the Pakistan and India agreed in February 2021 to uphold the ceasefire agreement. A few months ago, three children also died in Leepa valley while playing with an old shell. Many unexploded shells fired by the Indian Army remain littered in the areas close to the Line of Control, frequently defused by Pakistan Army as and when discovered or reported. Sometimes such shells cause explosion and claim innocent lives.
