A bomb squad rushed to a residential street in Coventry after reports of an unexploded WWII shell. It was found by a magnet fisher on Sunday (August 7). Experts travelled from Nottingham, after being called by West Midlands Police, to locate the artillery shell on Foleshill Road. Part of the busy street was cordoned off as the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out an extensive search. Shrapnel from an 18-pound shell, of the sort used in WWI and WWII, was found near Electric Wharf, an eyewitness said. It was made safe and recovered for subsequent disposal. A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: “An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, from Nottingham Troop, 721 EOD Sqn, 11 EOD&S Regt RLC, was called out to Foleshill Road, Coventry at the request of West Midlands Police, on August 7, 2022.
