South Cambridgeshire. By Fareid Atta. Police rushed to the recreation ground in Waterbeach today (June 1) after a hand grenade was found. Two police cordons were in place for about two hours as officials investigated. One cordon was in place on Cambridge Road and police were redirecting traffic away from the area as the road was closed. People were also asked to stay indoors. A second cordon was in place around the recreation grounds near the skate park. Police at the scene told CambridgeshireLive that the device was not a live device and they were going to remove the cordons. A representative from Cambridgeshire Police said they had taken precautions and sent a bomb disposal team, in a statement they said: “Officers have attended the scene and are liaising with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team”.
