East Hertfordshire. A suspected hand grenade was found in a field in Sawbridgeworth. Herts Police and a specialist unit arrived to assess the device, and a controlled explosion was carried out. Police were called at around 10am on Wednesday (March 30) to reports that the suspected hand grenade had been discovered in a field of Hallingbury Road, Sawbridgeworth. Officers and a specialist unit from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended. They assessed the device and the controlled explosion was carried out shortly before 7pm. East Herts Police said in a statement: “We’ve been assisting EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal)- who gently dealt with an historical unexploded device located this evening in Sawbridgeworth. No danger to anyone and dealt with professionally by the experts. Sorry if we made you jump!”
