Children in Ukraine are noticing that there may be war with their neighbor Russia. Soldiers teach Ukrainian children what to do if that happens. The soldiers show fake weapons and fake explosives at school and tell about the dangers. There is great concern in the world about the tensions between Ukraine and Russia. The two neighboring countries have been arguing for a long time. Russia is sending more and more soldiers to the border with Ukraine. The government in Ukraine wants the people in the country to be prepared, including the children. The children find it helpful to know what to do if explosives come near them. Ukraine and Russia both say they really don’t want war. But more and more soldiers are moving to the area near the border between the two countries. We made this video about it this weekend. Ukraine and Russia are closely linked, yet they have been arguing with each other for years. Russia has already taken a piece of land from Ukraine. Ukraine now fears that Russia will invade the country and take even more territories. Western countries want to help Ukraine. The Netherlands is also participating in this discussion, together with other European countries and the United States. The countries want to prevent the Russian army from invading Ukraine.
No danger in the Netherlands
But, whatever happens, children in the Netherlands don’t have to worry about whether there will be war here as well. That says journalist Kysia Hekster, who is in Ukraine for the Youth News. In Ukraine, people are concerned. We spoke to two Dutch children in Ukraine. They live there because their parents work there. No one knows now whether war will break out between the two countries. All countries involved are continuing to talk to find a solution. But so far there is no such solution.
