Workers at the Sandy Lanes development – the site of the former Atherfield Holiday Camp – made the explosive discovery at around 08:30, prompting Police to be called to the scene off Military Road. A cordon was established ahead of the arrival of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). Following an examination of the device, the decision was taken to carry out a controlled explosion.
