太平洋戦争末期の沖縄戦で旧日本軍の特攻を受けて沈んだ米軍艦から不発弾が見つかり、５年余りもの間、沖縄県 今帰仁なきじん 村や県、海上自衛隊が解決策を見いだせず苦慮している。不発弾を軍艦から取り外して処理するのは技術的に難しく、その場で爆破させると船体を壊す恐れがあるためだ。県教委や、海の戦争遺跡と位置づける研究者は「船体に影響がないよう慎重に対応してほしい」と求めている。（小松一郎）この軍艦は米軍の高速掃海艇エモンズ。全長約１００メートルで、 古宇利こうり 島沖の水深約４０メートルに沈んでいる。１９４５年４月６日、特攻を受けて航行不能となり、翌７日に僚艦によって沈められた。
警察は「不発弾を見つけたら近づかず連絡してほしい」と話しています。
