Springfield Fire Marshal Ben Basham said the bomb squad determined it was a grenade. However, Basham says it is not linked to any suspicious activity. The Springfield Bomb Squad detonated the grenade shortly after the discovery.

Sul posto interviene una pattuglia della Polizia, gli agenti pensano a una granata legata ad attività criminali. Il sito è raggiunto dal gruppo Eod i quali dopo aver esaminato l’ordigno escludono l’ipotesi di or ordigno collegato ad ambienti malavitosi. Perciò l’ordigno “pescato” potrebbe trattarsi di una granata post-bellica, o trovata nella casa di qualche ex reduce e buttata nel lago da qualche incosciente.
