Stuart Elliott, who was called to the beach after the live 81 mm French mortar bombs were uncovered close to the low water mark, said that it was ‘unusual’ to find three in close proximity.
Mr Elliott safely detonated the bombs with a small charge after burying them at the low water mark on Friday.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
